Jennifer Balmos

Jennifer was drawn to elder law when her own parents began asking questions about paying for long-term care and discussing their healthcare wishes. While helping her parents navigate the spectrum of health care options and methods to protect their assets, she realized that an elder law practice would allow her to provide the same kind of peace of mind to others in her community. As an attorney, she uses her years of experience to help her clients craft forward-looking plans for their health care, housing and assets. As a mother, daughter and wife, she understands that health care and end-of-life decisions can be difficult, and seeks to give her clients space to make those decisions while advising them on the spectrum of options. She knows that each individual and family is different, and believes that each person must be treated with respect and kindness.

Jennifer began her legal practice over 14 years ago in Washington, DC. During her tenure at the Department of Treasury, Jennifer navigated the complex regulations governing trade with sanctioned countries, primarily reviewing violations of the Trading With the Enemy Act, Iran Sanctions Act and Sudanese Sanctions Regulations. Working closely with OFAC’s investigation division to fully develop each case, Jennifer recommended civil penalties or waiver thereof for individuals, financial institutions and corporations.

Jennifer then served as in-house counsel at BSA | The Software Alliance, the country’s foremost trade association of software publishers. She began as an enforcement attorney, responsible for both investigating and resolving a large docket of copyright infringement matters. Jennifer then assumed responsibility for BSA’s North America enforcement program, managing outside counsel in both the United States and Canada. The common theme, even in such disparate practice areas, is that it is much easier to plan for a future event than it is to react as that event is unfolding.

Jennifer lives in Lantana with her husband Jonathan, sons Charlie and Drew, and yellow Lab, Bella. She is rooted in her community, serving on the PTA Board at Blanton Elementary and volunteering with Rockpointe Church. Jennifer loves reading mystery novels, traveling with her family, and cheering on her beloved Kentucky Wildcats.
